Hey there! I'm Angela,
Former nonprofit CEO turned Nonprofit Consultant and Strategist. I know you because I was you. In 2008 our tiny storefront outreach church set out to make a tremendous impact in the second poorest community in America. We had only 20 members, almost half of them children. We had big goals, big dreams, and even bigger visions. But what we didn’t have was funding, and we were lacking all the things. Information, resources, understanding, support, and of course proper financing.  We were serving people in our community the best we could and giving all we knew how by passing out bread, pastries, and gently used clothing to the homeless and others in need. We were the area’s best-kept secret. But no one would fund us. When I say no one, I mean we actually received a NO from 15 grants in a row. We spent months trying. Then before we knew it, almost 2 years had gone by and we were on the verge of having to move out of that tiny storefront church because we were solely relying on the tithes and offerings of others to help us stay afloat, even though we were helping those who never even sat through one of our church services. We knew something had to change.
The truth was…. It wasn’t just that our organization was financially malnourished, we were beginning to question if we were even called to this. I mean, the word “Outreach” was in the name of our church, but we thought maybe it was just not our time. We were doing so much for others and “For FREE”… mind you because we were all volunteering at this point. The passion was so great that we were actually holding up the outreach ministry with money out of our own pockets at times. We KNEW we had greatness inside of us, but we just couldn’t get everything to line up in the form of grants, donations, and funding success. We started to second-guess our calling.
I finally reached my breaking point.
After a while, I realized that everything I was doing was taking us further and further away from the vision. And no matter what we did, we couldn’t get the attention of funders for anything in the world. Maybe they just didn’t want to fund churches.
But we knew better.Â
We did what you’ve probably done – purchased a few courses, attended some free trainings, and tried to get a grant writer to gift us their services, We even would go to community groups where all the other nonprofits would gather, hoping to stumble upon the solution... the problem was that they were trying to get us to think that there were enough nonprofits already doing things and only so much funding to go around.  Well, we were over that! Â
So when we couldn’t find what I needed, or get the exact help we wanted, we went to work trying to figure it out on our own, and realized that the way we did business as a church, and they way funders were looking at us for funding, was totally different than what we thought. So we mastered it, and created our own solution. And The Fundable Church Model and Fundable Success Factor SystemTM was born. You see the FCM & System is all about moving from survival to sacrifice - and this is where the blessing of growth comes into play!
At first, we were our only success story - we started to actually earn a small salary from the outreach while working with less stress. We successfully added influence to our ministry. We deepened our connection to the community, and as a result our church grew from 20 to over 200 members in the process. We focused on the vision God gave us to power and moved from a mindset of survival to sacrifice (there’s a difference!)  Then we started focusing on scaling the vision. With the help of this powerful system, we went from overworked to overflow, and inside of just a few years, we crossed the seven-figure mark the easy way. By 2010 we had been awarded over $1 million in federal grant funding plus another $450 K of in kind donations, services and support. We never hired a grant writer. We built if from scratch. If we could do it then, you can absolutely do it now.
